Texture ceilings get very dusty with a ceiling fan
by jean on Apr.18, 2006, under Painting Jobs
I’ve always had flat ceilings with no ceiling fans, it was surprising to me how dusty texture ceilings can be with a ceiling fan! I inspected my next room project last night. I had intentions of starting the day/night combo today but upon closer inspection, this mural had to be delayed so the owner can dust mop and vacuum her ceiling and fan. ![]()
Minor glitch, hopefully I can get in there tomorrow and be finished by the weekend.
…and come up with some new pics of my work! This will be a challenge as I’ve never painted a clouds mural on a texture ceiling. She has the type of ceiling that when you run your hand across the surface, some of the texture material comes off. That reminds me, I’ll have to find my dust mask so I’m not breathing in whatever that comes off from her ceiling.
The good thing is that it is a fairly small room so it shouldn’t take me too long. I’m using a new colorwashing technique on the ceiling for the blue sky, we’ll see how it turns out with a texture ceiling. I think the hills and valleys will create even more of an illusion but we shall see!
The stars can be painted on texture surfaces, I’ve done it before. Ideally, a flat ceiling is best as every element of starscapes® can be painted. On texture ceilings, there are some features that are very hard to duplicate, say for instance, the straight lines of shooting stars. Nevertheless, I will attempt it.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
I’ll be photographing the days progress to add to my portfolio and website, be on the lookout! So the lesson here today is to make sure your ceilings are dust mopped prior to my arrival whether it’s flat or textured, especially if it’s textured with a ceiling fan…there are dust bunnies just hanging out on those little mountain peaks of your ceiling! Having a dusty ceiling may very well delay your magnificent mural from being painted. Luckily, hers only got delayed for just a day because I wasn’t booked up this week. ![]()
