Love the Cosmos series with Carl Sagan!
I was flipping through the channels and watched some astronomy show on the Science channel…and then…I recognized the voice of the commentator of the show the followed.
It was Carl Sagan and it was the Cosmos Series!! Years ago I discovered the library to carry the entire series on VHS
I would go in there every few days to check out whatever ones they had available. To this day, I’m not sure if I’ve seen them all but the one on tv now I have seen a couple of times ![]()
I love how he explains things in such a well thought out yet simple way….where even I can understand it! Some stuff is beyond my comprehension, just like when I went to the free public lecture last week at the STScI.
It was so cool going to the lecture, it felt so right! Synchronicity…if I hadn’t been working on my brochure, I wouldn’t have gone to the hubblesite.org to look for a cool hubble image to use for the background! The image I LOVED was the new Orion Nebula photo just recently taken back in January! Never did it occurred to me to find out who ran the website. Come to find out that Maryland has quite an interest in astronomy and space. I’ve lived here most of my life and I just never thought about it and never made too much association with what i do now with the potentially large market. I almost feel silly at my oversight ![]()
It turns out that the hubblesite.org is a part of STScI which is the Space Telescope Science Institue at Johns Hopkins University. They have free lectures every 1st tuesday of the month and the lecture I attended in April was on the star formation in the Orion Nebula…haha How truly appropriate!
So I attended and it was sooo cool. I got there late cuz I got so lost driving through the city. They are doing a lot of construction going into the city and one missed exit…well I’m not the greatest with directions. I get lost a LOT and mapquest sure doesn’t help in the matter much.
Once I found the University, it started looking familiar…at first I thought maybe I had gotten lost around that area before which I’m sure I have, but soon I realized that my cousin had gone to Johns Hopkins, I must’ve visited her there. Thank goodness I printed up the address and phone number to the STScI so when I was circling the university, I called the front desk and the girl that was working there was so nice and helpful…she guided me for almost 10 minutes til I made it there.
The speaker was great, he seemed really knowledgeable…well, he IS a scientist so I hope he does know his stuff! But I like how they made things easy to understand for people of all levels of learning
Plus he had a really cool British accent that made him seem even more credible. I was so excited to be there learning about things that relate to what I do that I was skyhigh all night long. It was a beautiful warm night but it was cloudy. They made a comment about not being able to go up to use their large telescope because of the cloud over…and I thought to myself, you wouldn’t have that problem with a Starscapes®, there is never a cloudy night when you’re stargazing in bed with one of my starry sky murals
What a great night that was, I felt purposeful, like I am on the right track and was totally getting the validation on it.
Anyway, one day I will buy the Cosmos Series with Carl Sagan and watch it whenever I want at my own convenience…haha much like my paintings, you can stargaze whenever you want at your convenience, each and every night!
Oh, btw, I approved the final proof of my brochures tonight!!! They looked fabulous!! They are ready to go to press tomorrow and are expected to be shipped out on the 17th and arrive here on the 24th…I can’t wait to get them!! If you’d like to see the new brochures, just email me your mailing address and I’ll get one out to you when they arrive ![]()
